Get Active with all the Right Moves
The Geelong and Bannockburn communities are getting fitter and healthier following the launch of Heart Moves.

You don’t have to get fit first to survive this exercise program! Taking part in Heartmoves shows how easy it is to start moving and enjoying the benefits of physical activity in a safe, fun and social environment.

Heartmoves was specifically developed by the Heart Foundation for men and women who have health risk factors including high cholesterol, high blood pressure or are overweight or have a stable chronic illness, such as heart disease, arthritis and diabetes.

The exercise program has been designed by health professionals and is led by specially trained instructors who can tailor the program to the needs of their clients, allowing for easy and enjoyable sessions that don’t strain the body. It makes exercise fun and gets even the most sedentary people up and moving.

The program focuses on delivering safe, low to moderate intensity work-outs incorporating gentle aerobic movements, weight-bearing or resistance exercise and stretching - all of which help improve strength, balance and self-confidence. It’s also a great way to meet new people, as Rose attests.

“I started coming to Heartmoves about 2.5 years ago. I had suffered a stroke and the doctor recommended that I do some exercise to help me with my muscles that were affected by the stroke. I used to use a stick for walking and thanks to Heartmoves I don’t use the stick at all any more. My bad leg has really improved and my balance is so much better. The instructor always helps me if I need to change the exercise and she also explains why we are doing each exercise. This helps me to understand the benefits of coming along to the class. We all swap recipes and also books, and we enjoy a coffee after the class every week, so it makes it very social.” Rose, 71 years old

The program is run by YMCA trained fitness instructor Tegan Purser and is being run at two locations;

Bannockburn Recreation Centre- 132 Milton Street, Bannockburn commencing Tuesday at 10.00am- 11.00am from 5th May 2015

Cost: $8.50 per class if booking casual or $80 for 10 week program. Health care concessions apply.
