Golden Plains recognizes outstanding residents with 2016 Australia Day Awards


Golden Plains Shire Council is delighted to recognise outstanding members of the community with our 2016 Australia Day Awards.

Mayor, Cr Des Phelan, was honoured to present awards to three outstanding citizens and one fantastic local event and the hardworking residents who make it happen at today’s Council meeting.

  • Citizen of the Year for 2016: David Bruce?
    David received this award in recognition of his years of service to the Teesdale community.

  • Senior Citizen of the Year for 2016: Jill Wheeler?
    Jill is one of the Shire’s most dedicated community members when it comes to preserving local history.

  • Young Citizen of the Year for 2016: Matthew Kinnia?
    At age 17, Matthew stands out for the initiative, leadership and enthusiasm he applies to everything he does.

  • Community Event of the Year 2016: Live @ Turtle Bend 2015
    ?
    Live @ Turtle Bend is a fantastic outdoor music event; showcasing local and regional talent and attracting big crowds from all over.

Mayor, Cr Des Phelan, said “One of the most rewarding things I do as Mayor is acknowledge outstanding members of our community and reflect on the contributions that so many residents make to our communities.

“The Australia Day Award winners showcase the best of Golden Plains Shire – passion, dedication, and wholehearted commitment are just some of the qualities seen in the nominations.
