Maude & District Landcare Group

The Landcare Group is very concerned about the possibility of Barwon Water’s share of water in Lal Lal reservoir being transferred to Central Highlands Water for use in Ballarat. This would seriously deplete the amount of water flowing down the Moorabool River and greatly reduce the effectiveness of environmental water flows.

To help us all to be better informed about this serious threat to the health of the river, which is regarded as one of the most flow-stressed waterways in the state, an information evening has been arranged at the Meredith Hall supper room on Tuesday, April 12th at 7pm.

Guest speakers will be Saul Vermeeren from the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CCMA), Angus Ramsey from Southern Rural water and Cameron Steele from People from a Living Moorabool (PALM). Everyone who is at all interested in the future health of our river should try to attend.

If you need further information, please contact Peter Stray, Maude Landcare president on 0438 572 797.

All landholders in Maude Landcare Group’s area should receive a letter soon regarding Serrated Tussock. There is great concern that there are some extensive areas locally where this important weed is growing unchecked. We all have it – no one can prevent the seed being spread by the wind – but we encourage everyone to play your part and remove every plant you can find on your land.

Members of the Maude Landcare Group regularly have a stall at the Bannockburn Farmers’ Market on behalf of the Geelong Landcare Network. Our next appearance will be on April 2nd. Landcare has a presence at the Market most months, so please drop by and have a chat to those on duty, ask questions, share good news stories and check out any weeds on display.

The next meeting of the Landcare Group is to be held on Thursday, 21st April 2016 at the Maude Tennis Pavilion at 7.30pm. All welcome.
