Maude & District Landcare Group

Many concerned locals attended consultation sessions concerning the State Government’s Water for Victoria plans, wrote submissions and sent letters to politicians. For now, we wait to see the result of our efforts.

The Geelong Landcare Network also put in a submission addressing the plans to reduce the amount of water to be made available to the lower reaches of the Moorabool River. We continue to hope for a change in Government policy in this important matter.

Funding for River Health projects is coming up again, and projects on the Moorabool River and West branch of Sutherlands Creek are likely to have a good chance of success. Landcare Group members who are interested and have their plans developed should contact the secretary.

Rabbits are quiet around here at present. Maybe they are like the humans, wanting to stay inside and keep warm. There is information regarding the release of the new strain of Calicivirus in the Geelong Landcare Network report elsewhere in this issue.

The target area for our Serrated Tussock control plan has been identified in the Maude area. It will include some clean properties and others where work is required. Landholders will be contacted by the Serrated Tussock Working Party in due course.

The next meeting of the Landcare Group will be held at the Maude Tennis Pavilion on Thursday, August 18th  at 7.30pm.
