Maude & District Landcare Group

We are still waiting for news concerning the fate of the Moorabool River regarding the proposal to send more water to Ballarat, and leave the middle and lower reaches of the river starved of flow in dry times.

Thankfully the recent rain has seen a good flush going down the river, and if the rain continues there should be a good stream right through to the Barwon river.

Funding for River Health projects is coming up again, and projects on the Moorabool River and West branch of Sutherlands Creek are likely to have a good chance of success. Landcare Group members who are interested and have their plans developed should contact the secretary.

A working bee at Spiller’s Bridge on Perdrisat road on Saturday morning, July 16th was not well attended, but those who were there did a great job planting out the remaining plants left over from last year’s day, which was cut short by a heavy rain storm. We were very pleased to see that most of the trees, shrubs and grasses survived the very dry, hot and long summer with little watering, so their roots should be well down in the soil now.

A further working bee is to be arranged to install the tables and seats at the next meeting of the Landcare Group, which will be held at the Maude Tennis Pavilion on Thursday, August 18th  at 7.30pm.
