Bannockburn & District Lions Club

Congratulations to Lorraine Allworthy of Bannockburn for being awarded on 17th August with the Lions’ Alan J Holding Award for community service.  The award was presented by Lions District Governor Terry Heazlewood when he visited the Club.

Lorraine is a local girl who grew up in Gheringhap and attended Bannockburn Primary School.   Until recently she farmed at Murgheboluc.   Lorraine has a 25 year history of volunteer service with the Salvation Army in Geelong and more recently has been a major contributor to the Bannockburn and District Lions Club.   She is currently an active member of the Bannockburn Planned Activities Group.   Well done Lorraine.

The Lions Club and the Bannockburn Golf Club will be hosting the Battle of Bannockburn Timeline Festival on October 29th and 30th this year.   The 2014 event was attended by 7,000 people and this year’s program is bigger and better.   Highlights include about 80 craft and food stalls, medieval re-enactment by Timeline Festival, jousting featuring International Jousters, mounted skill at arms, Full Flight “Birds of Prey” display, live music, living history encampments and displays, 14th Century archery competition, Scottish Pipe Bands and games, Highland dancing, car and vintage motor cycle clubs and much more.   There will even be a replica Middle Ages trebuchet!

Lions are always on the lookout for community minded citizens to join its work.   If interested please contact Anne Cotsell on 0400 110 107.
