Bannockburn & Dsitrict Garden Club

Our August meeting was on a cloudy day threatening rain. Bannockburn and District Gardening Club Inc. members drove to Werribee to visit Plantmark nursery This wholesale nursery is a great favourite with members due to the extensive choice of plants and the expert advice available.

With such a wide variety of plants there was always something to suit every possible garden design. I came home with a magnolia, beautiful pink flowers and a cherry tree for the new garden. The cherry tree I expect will be a challenge between myself and the local birds.

Several members who are involved in the new gardens for Bannockburn were receiving comprehensive advice on choices of suitable plants and their maintaince

After the spending spree, members drove down K Road and enjoyed afternoon tea at a wonderful Cafe and delicatessen.

In September we visited the delightful garden of Dean Wood in Ocean Grove  It was several years since we had visited this garden and it was well worth the return.

The garden is full of twists and turns with old time favourites and some very interesting collector specimens. I loved the frog pond with the elegant statues and frog friendly plants. Established trees formed a beautiful canopy and protected plants from the scorching sun.

Dean had invited two of his neighbours along to meet the group.  Both Carol and Heather invited us all to visit their gardens, an unexpected treat. One garden was a lovely cottage garden with a glorious vegetable garden at the rear, the other was full of azaleas and fuchsias with an enviable display of grevilleas a real triple treat.

Members had brought along a lovely afternoon tea supplemented by Dean's cakes, slices and scones with home made strawberry jam. A memorable afternoon

A reminder to all members that the fees are due please contact Ros.
