Maude & District Landcare Group

It is pleasing to see that people are beginning to use the picnic area we are developing at Spiller’s Bridge on Perdrisat road. The trees, shrubs and grasses we planted there are doing well, helped along by the wonderful rains.

The high flows in the Moorabool River covered some of the plants and stole a few tree guards, but no great damage was done. There is still further work to be done at the site to develop car parking and keep the weeds at bay.

The Annual Meeting was held on 20th October. Elections were held for all office bearers and the results were as follows:

President, Peter Stray;
Vice President, Terry Salter;
Secretary, Gill Gartlan,
Treasurer, John Stray;
GLCN rep., Bruce Harper, with alternate reps., Les Rowe and Paul Towart;
Publicity, Lex Stray;

Committee, Bruce Harper, Graham Johns, Les Rowe, Mark Schurmann, Paul Towart and Brendan Heagney.

The 2017 Rabbit Poisoning campaign will be held on Friday 3rd, Monday 6th, and Thursday 9th February 2017. All details will be sent by email to all those on our list and the information will be placed in all letter boxes in the Landcare area.

Anyone else needing to be part of the campaign should make inquiries to Lex Stray, 5281 9293, or Elaine Johns, 5281 9395.

Poisoning once a year is only one part of your rabbit control program – warren fumigation and destruction and removal of rabbit harbour are essential if you are going to control these dreadful pests.

The Landcare Group will be doing the replanting at the Maude Recreation Reserve following the removal of the sugar gums at the back of the Reserve. This will be done in the late autumn once the heat of the summer is behind us.

The next meeting of the Landcare Group will be held at the Maude Tennis Pavilion on Thursday, 15th December at 8pm.
