Maude Recreation Reserve

A working bee was held at the Reserve on Friday 28th October to continue with the cleaning up and planning for further development.

A large amount of tops not suitable for mulching were burnt and the general area now looks much better. The timber was sold for firewood, the sugar gum tops were mulched and the stumps ground. The area looks very different, and the wind can be a bit fresh at times, but luckily the barbecue shelter provides an excellent spot to hide from the wind if necessary.

There are still more sugar gums to be removed from the area near the lookout while they are in a manageable state. Then comes the big task of replanting with suitable native vegetation – too late for this year on such an exposed site. The replanting will be undertaken by the Maude Landcare Group in consultation with the Reserve committee.

One of our original members of the Reserve cleaning roster, Bev Burgess, will retire after exactly ten years service at the end of November. Bev, who also served as our President for a number of years, retiring in September 2014, has been traveling from Lara for some years to do her turns on the roster. A very big thank you to her for such outstanding service.

The next meeting of the Maude Recreation Reserve Committee of Management will be held at the barbecue shelter on Monday, December 5th at 6pm. There will be a short meeting, to be followed by a barbecue to celebrate the end of another successful year.
