Cr Des Phelan Elected New Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor

Cr Des Phelan was elected as Golden Plains Shire Council’s new Mayor recently at a Special Meeting of Council at the Bannockburn Shire Hall Council Chamber.

Cr Phelan has served as Mayor for the last two years.

All Councillors were sworn in with an Oath of Office and signing of the Code of Conduct, before commencing a comprehensive agenda which included the term of the Mayor, Mayoral and Councillor allowances and meeting cycles.

The new Council has already started a comprehensive induction schedule, which included a full day of briefings on Monday 7th November and will continue throughout November and December.

Cr Phelan said being voted to represent the Council and community as Mayor is a real honour.

“I am passionate about strengthening our local communities across Golden Plains. I will remain a strong advocate for supporting young families and providing opportunities for those at risk of isolation to remain connected.”

“As Mayor I am committed to supporting both the Council and the organisation to make good decisions for the benefit of our community.”

“The power of a Council lies in teamwork and strategic thinking and I know that this group of Councillors is dedicated to working as a team for the bright future of Golden Plains and its people.”

“Council must embrace innovation and progressive thinking in order to remain responsive to our citizens.”

“We need to ensure we are innovative in our approach to managing the affairs of Council because the expectation of our communities continues to grow and rate capping will increase the financial pressure on Council as time goes on.”

“It is an honour and a privilege to represent and serve my community as Mayor and I look forward to the next year.”
