Bannockburn Primary School News

I wish to announce the appointment of Ms Robyn Anderson, who joins the school as an assistant principal. Robyn will work closely with school leadership on the development of the secondary program at the new school. Robyn joins us from her position of campus principal at Western Heights College.

Our school chaplain, Mrs Frith DeVries, is leaving us after many years of offering support and assistance to students, parents and staff. Frith has assisted families to settle into a new community, helped at times of grief, worked with children to build resilience and more. We have been very lucky to have the skills and compassion that she brought to her role. Frith has accepted a full time position at another school. We wish her all the best as she works with a new school community.

School Leaders’ Presentation
Early March saw us hold a whole school assembly where we presented our student leaders with their badges. We were privileged to have guest speaker, Miranda Luby, attend. Miranda has previously attended Bannockburn Primary School discussing non-fiction writing as a part of Bannockburn Primary’s Be Inspired program and it was an honour for our students to hear from her again.

Andrew Bath Flyover
Andrew Bath, a pilot in the RAAF and past student of Bannockburn Primary School, gave us a close look at his jet during his fly over on his way back to Queensland after the Air Show earlier this month.

The entire school waited in anticipation on the basketball court as we watched above, not having to wait very long before he flew past us. With a spinning wave to children below and a loud boom from the sky, the children clapped and waved, thankful for the close up look at the F/A-18F Super Hornet in action.

I had the pleasure, along with hundreds of others, in seeing a group of children from Bannockburn perform in the FunRun performance as part of Moomba. Circus Oz trainers have been working with children to develop a three-minute routine for a number of weeks prior to their performance.

At about 5.20pm Sunday, March 12th, the Moomba crowd were treated to 25 fluro clad children tumbling, using hoops and diablos and even building human pyramids.

We had lots of family members in attendance witnessing a fantastic performance from everyone involved. You can check out the performance on the School Council facebook page.

Aths Sports
On Thursday, March 16th, we conducted our annual Athletics Carnival where our Grade 3-6 Learning Community headed off to Goldsworthy Reserve to find the next Olympic champion from our region. We shared the focus of giving our best effort and completing what we started. The effort and behaviour of our students was exemplary, making our school community very proud. Students competed for their house Wabdallah, Leigh or Bruce with each individual effort rewarded with points for the house.

Bruce was our overall winner on 974, Leigh 954 and Wabdallah 874.

It was great to see so many family members join us on our annual walkathon. I am sure everyone enjoyed seeing the progress on the new school site as they walked by the site. A big thank you to the PFA for providing a hot lunch on the day.

Congratulations to Caiden Tasci from 4C.
This 10 year old boy has captured the pain and suffering of the ramifications associated with bullying and violence in his artwork.
