Golden Plains Soccer Club

Since starting out in 2012 with the support of Bannockburn Primary School the Golden Plains Soccer Club has gone from strength to strength.

Initially catering for Junior players, clinics were held at lunchtime at the Bannockburn Primary school with the support of staff and then graduated to the 2nd Oval at Victoria Park for training and matches.

After competing at a Tournament in Ballarat the teams came home excited in what they had achieved and so decided to formally form a Soccer Club with the support of the Golden Plains Shire Council.

Applications were submitted for grants to gain a dedicated soccer ground and clubrooms and planning was commenced to create the Bannockburn Recreation Precinct which was to become the home of the newly formed Club. With the injection of Commonwealth grants and local Shire money a  soccer pitch has now been constructed at the new Sporting complex at the top of Milton Street and the Club now has a place they can call home.

Whilst the Club had been submitting junior teams, in 2016 they fielded their first senior team which has done extraordinarily well and moved up into a higher division much more quickly than expected.

Recently our local member, Sarah Henderson announced Federal Government funding of $100,000 to further develop the soccer complex by upgrading the club rooms to enable them to install a commercial kitchen and better change rooms, construct coaches boxes and build a perimeter fence around the oval. With soccer growing in popularity this funding has provided a major boost to the Golden Plains Soccer Club.

It is proposed that this facility will also be available for use by the Golden Plains Hockey Club and the Bannockburn P-12 school now under construction just across the road.

With the rapid growth in numbers at the Soccer Club and with the extra demands on the oval it is already becoming apparent that there will be a need for a second oval in the not too distant future and the Club looks forward to the support of the community as they plan for the future.

Registrations for players are now open for those wishing to play in the 2017 season. All age groups from Under 7 are represented for both girls and boys and senior male & female teams are also requiring players.
