Create Crate Trailer Rolls Into Golden Plains

The Golden Plains Create Crate project is a new initiative to help guide community groups through the process of setting up a pop-up space in their communities.

A pop-up space usually involves a small setup in a public area that grabs the attention of local people, helping community groups achieve their goals and make a positive impact in local towns.

Council has also put together the Create Crate, a mobile activation trailer packed with equipment and games that will help community groups get started with their pop-up spaces. This can be hired by community groups and was funded by VicHealth to help people get active and stay connected.

Local groups and clubs can use a pop-up space to promote their activities, recruit new members or raise awareness about local issues. A pop-up space could be used for a:
• Kid’s circus afternoon • Weekly planned cricket game
• Afternoon craft session • or for a range of other activities

These spaces engage residents and can help create stronger, more active and connected communities.

With VicHealth funding, Council will run two workshops to help local groups make a difference in their communities via pop-up spaces. Workshops will be held at:

• The Well, Smythesdale—Wednesday 3 May, 6.30pm, and
• Bannockburn Cultural Centre—Thursday 4 May, 6.30pm.

Consultants from CoDesign, who are experts in activating community spaces, will lead the workshops.

Participants will learn how to set up and deliver fun, exciting and effective pop-up spaces, pick up handy strategies to help place the pop-up spaces in the best community spots, and get ideas on where to find cheap or free materials.

If you or anyone you know would be interested in attending one of the workshops or to find out more about the Create Crate, contact Scarlet Cridland, Create Crate Project Officer on or 5220 7111.
