Bannockburn Anglers Club News

We had a great weekend away at Warrnambool on June 16th-18th where the club members stayed at the Hopkins caravan park near the river.

The target fish for the weekend were bream and estuary perch with lots of fish being caught. Our champion lady angler, Denise Giles, bagged out on bream on Saturday with fish weighing in at 750, 780 and 700 gm – well done Denise. Unfortunately she was pipped at the post by Todd Broughton who landed the heaviest fish with 900gm bream caught on Friday evening.

The rest of the lady anglers did very well too with Mandie Thomas getting a 340gm bream and Tina Perkins landing bream weighing in at 460 and 440gm. The junior bream trophy was won by Sam Giles with a great 660gm fish.

Robert Giles took the trophy for the heaviest estuary perch 340gm and also caught a 520gm bream. Our bream specialist, Alan McCallum caught a sizeable fish weighing 740gm.

Our next outing will be on Sunday July 16th where we will fish the two lakes of Bullen Merri and Purrumbete. Target fish redfin, trout and quinet - weigh in at 2pm at Purrumbete.

We hope to be holding a family fishing day at the Bannockburn lagoon on Sunday October 15th coinciding with ‘Gone Fishing’ day which allows everyone to have a go at fishing without needing a licence.

The day will be run by the club and we will provide information, fishing rods and reels and guidance on how to catch a fish. Refreshments will also be available. There will be prizes and show bags for the children so come along and have a fish at your local fishing spot. More information next month.

Bannockburn Anglers Club welcomes new members. We have regular outings usually on the 3rd Sunday of each month and fish both freshwater and saltwater. Please call Robbie on 0439 717 183 or email us at bannockburnanglers@gmail.com if you are interested in joining us.
