Mayor's Message - August 2017

I was delighted to join Golden Plains community members in Rokewood on July 24 for the announcement of successful grants under the Community Grants program – and to mark 21 years of the successful and popular initiative.

Since its launch in 1996, the Community Grants program has granted over $2.24M in funding. Through matching funding, Council’s investment in community grants has delivered a total of $6.44M in value to local communities.

The 886 projects funded over 21 years of the program have supported Council’s objective to encourage common interest groups to take an active involvement in the life of their community to become stronger and more economically, environmentally and socially sustainable.

Community groups representing 30 different Golden Plains communities from Batesford and Barunah Plains, to Smythesdale and Steiglitz, have received community grants over the past 21 years.

This year’s grants (see below) will assist our aim of support to community groups to complete some much-needed projects.

Community groups are encouraged to look at their local needs, their recreation and meeting areas, and think about creative and innovative ways to enhance their spaces and projects.

Council looks forward to the new community infrastructure and events that result from community ideas.
