Bannockburn Primary School News

It is with a deal of sadness that we said “Bon Voyage” and “Au Revoir” to Sandy Boue. Sandy was our French language assistant since January 2016. She had been an integral person in driving our French program for all students.

Sandy shared with us all what it is like to live in France and to be French. She worked closely with our French teachers to provide an exciting, high quality language program.

Sandy immersed herself in the school and school community. She joined in camps, sporting days, excursions and classroom programs. She enjoyed our Colour Run and took every opportunity to work with and support our students.

Sandy had a fantastic time whilst here. She has visited every state or territory (except NT). She has dived on the Great Barrier Reef, skydived in Cairns, held a baby dingo and so much more. She has certainly seen and experienced much more of Australia and our way of life than most of us who live here.

Sandy went back to France to complete her Master’s Degree in Teaching. She hopes to return to Australia to teach here.

It was wonderful to have Sandy as a member of Bannockburn Primary School.

Au Revoir Sandy and Bon Chance!

Bannockburn College
Our planning for the new college continues.  We are currently finalising 2018 camp dates and locations working closely with the YMCA.  The current camping program for students in Years 3 – 6 will be extended with a camp in both Year 7 and Year 8.  This gives us the opportunity to enhance our existing camping program for these year levels resulting in a sequential program of opportunities, adventure and challenging activities over their school years.  We understand the power of camping programs in enhancing relationships between students and their teachers and providing learning opportunities in a different context.

A number of Information Evenings are being planned to share information about our move to Bannockburn College for the beginning of 2018 with existing and new families.  Watch out for more information in the newsletter and on our website and Facebook page.

Our new Bannockburn P-12 College Facebook page has been posted.  Search us on Facebook and Like to be able to see our latest posts.

Girls Football

Recently we had 32 girls head off to take part in our tenth Girls Football Carnival. This event has grown from an 8 team event into a two day 36 team competition. Each year the skills and understanding of the game grows as more girls experience club football. Our schools interest was overwhelming and we were able to send two teams.

Our Yr 5 team battled hard all day even though they could not hang on for a win. They were in a position to win 3 games throughout the day and were narrowly defeated. Their participation and willingness to have a go and learn was very pleasing to watch.

Our Yr 6 team won all of their pool games and made the semi final to only go down by a goal and eventually just missing out on a spot in the Grand Final.

A number of parents managed to attend the day and the girls really appreciated their support. Well done girls!

Young Author- Alice Pung
Alice Pung, author of Laurinda, My Father’s Daughter, My First Lesson and Unpolished Gem, will be visiting Bannockburn Primary School on Monday, 23rd October 2017 to work with our students during the day.  We are also arranging for Alice to give a presentation to any interested students Year 6 – Year 12 at the Bannockburn Library at 4:30pm on Monday, 23rd October.  If you are interested in attending please see the Bannockburn College Facebook page to indicate your attendance or contact the office.

The School Council made the decision to offer scholarships to 2018 Year 7 students earlier this year.  There were a range of scholarships offered; Academic Excellence, Student Leadership, Arts and Sport.  All students applied through an application and presenting to a panel at an interview.

A large number of applications were received and the Scholarship Panel were very impressed with the standard of the interviews that the students achieved.  The process is now completed with placement of students for 2018 Year 7 now being offered.

Congratulations to the 14 students who gained a scholarship for Year 7 and Year 8 at Bannockburn College beginning in 2018.

Students will each be presented with a certificate at their school assembly.  We look forward to Year 7 at our new school next year. With the caliber of these scholarship recipients it is a great indication that next year’s Year 7 students will be very successful into their secondary years of schooling.

Artist In Residence
During the week of August 21-25 we were lucky to have an artist with us during every students regular art session. Our artist, Kathirine Sentas is proficient in life drawing and painting and was able to assist our students in drawing natural artefacts such as animals and plants.

You can check out Kathirine’s work at

Students practised still life drawing in class. Kathirine’s visit was a wonderful experience for all the students.
