Bannockburn Garden Club

It was a lovely bright winters day when the Bannockburn and District Gardening Club Inc. met at Mercer St. Portarlington.

We were met by a very outgoing Glenn and his lovely wife Pam.  Garden art is a passion of Pams and her side of the garden was filled with plaques, mosaics and hanging features. One piece of wall art was a frame with a lattice infill decorated with pieces of fence boards, beads and flowers with the name of each of her grandchildren. A lovely idea.

On the other side of the house Glenn, a former builder, had built a 2 story orchid and bromeliad house. Glenn had a wonderful collection and variety of orchids many being prepared for the Geelong orchid show at the end of September.

There were fish ponds and fish tanks with water features. Bromeliads were being grown in cocoanut fibre with long tassels of air fern. It was beautifully warm in the orchid house having ducted heating and computer controlled watering.

Glenn had an enviable size raised vegetable garden with a lovely crop of stocks. Members were delighted to take home a bag full of seedlings.

Afternoon tea was enjoyed by all. Pam had made a couple of slices for us - she is a notable cook as well. Pam and Garry were thanked for their hospitality and presented with a small gift in appreciation.

Our next visit will be to Ocean Grove on 26th September leaving Lions Park 1pm. New members are assured of a warm welcome.
