Disability Family Fun Day

There were smiles for miles at the 4th Annual Disability Family Day held at Lethbridge on Sunday 24th October, 2010.  Families from across Victoria came along to enjoy the array of good food, entertainment, rides and activities put on by the Golden Plains Parent Support Group.

Children worked they way around the event hopping from Jumping Castles to Giant Slide, Craft Tent, Face Painting, Hair Colouring, Tattoos, patted the animals in Tracey’s Animal Farm then onto the Train Rides.  The parents were able to sit back and relax listening to the band ‘Off the Record’ and also enjoy massages provided by Melanie West.  Circus in a Suitcase entertained the crowd with their interactive circus show finishing off with a guest appearance from Captain Koala who wowed the kids with his ‘out there’ dance moves.

The Lethbridge CFA were on hand to show families over their new fire truck and the kids had the opportunity to dress up in mini turnout gear and take home some showbags.

The families were well catered for with the Bannockburn Lions Club sausage sizzle, Country 2 Coast Fairy Floss and the Teesdale PFA operating the canteen.  The families thoroughly enjoyed the day out where there is mutual respect and understanding from everyone in a safe and engaging environment.

This event could not be made possible without the support of our sponsors and supporters.  Thanks goes to SCOPE, Bannockburn and District Community Enterprise, Golden Plains Parent Support Group, Bannockburn Lions Club, Geelong Juke Box Rockers, Geelong Obedience Dog Club, Westfield Baycity, Landmark, Grippa’s Bakery, Weisers Bakery, Bakers Delight, Chemmart Pharmacy Bannockburn, Golden Oldies Mens Group, Lethbridge Playgroup, Bunnings Corio, Teesdale PFA, Kaiser Craft, Lethbridge CFA, Safeway Bannockburn, Melanie West Massages, Winks Eyecare, J&B Automotive, Bannockburn Cafe, Rescom Bannockburn, The Party Girl, Camillo Olives, Barwon Water, Adventure Park Geelong, NQR Grocery Clearance, Country 2 Coast Party Hire, Killary Transport and the numerous other volunteers that helped put this event together.

This event has grown over the last 4 years from just 10 families to now over 85 registering.  For it to continue we need to form an organizing committee and gain secure funding.  The event is too big for just Kaylene and Sue to manage.   If you are interested in joining this committee please contact Kaylene 52817553 or Sue 52651168 at your earliest convenience.
