Historic Lowndes Bridge to be Replaced

Work has commenced on the replacement of Lowndes Bridge on Parkers Road in Russell's Bridge.

This old wooden bridge has served the district for many decades but has now reached the stage where it is worn out and needs replacing.

For a number of years now it has had a restricted weight limit in place which limits its use by local farmers, contractors and emergency service vehicles needing to cross the river.

The replacement works will see a re-alignment of the bridge so that it is safer. The works will also require the closure of Parkers Road during construction and traffic will need to detour via Russell's Bridge Road or Bakers Bridge Road which will add up to 5 kilometres to the route, depending where you are going.

The Shire apologises for the inconvenience caused by this closure but the district will see the long term benefit of a new bridge in place across the Moorabool River that will better cater for the increase in traffic using it.
