Changes to Waste Management for Golden Plains Shire
Waste collected from the southern area of the Shire previously disposed of at the Corio landfill will now be redirected to Naroghid landfill using the former Teesdale landfill site as an exchange station.
Temporary bulk haulage will be utilised enabling weekly waste collections to continue without service disruption for local residents.
Council explored several alternative options at Wyndham, Drysdale and Anglesea landfill sites however they were ruled out due to concerns regarding haulage distance, waste disposal fees, hours of operation and service continuity.
Council has approved the temporary arrangements strictly conditional upon the contractor being required to keep the site and surrounding area free of litter. No waste is permitted to remain on the ground overnight.
The Teesdale site is still subject to a closure plan as part of EPA regulations and the exchange station works will be incorporated into planning for rehabilitation works.
Adjoining landowners will be directly notified of Council’s use of the former Teesdale landfill site for exchange of waste to haulage vehicles.
