Council Secures $120K Grant for Youth Engagement

Golden Plains Shire Council has secured $120,000 in State Government funding to deliver its youth engagement program over the next three years.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Geraldine Frantz confirmed that Council was one of 102 successful community organisations to be recipients of the Victorian Government's $12.3 million Engage! grant program.

Council’s 2012-14 youth engagement program is appropriately named ‘Chip in – Everyone plays a part’ and the program objective is for young people to connect and contribute to the community," said Cr Frantz.

“Initiatives and activities will be designed to nurture young people’s skill development, enhance their connection to their local community, their peers and their family members, and providing youth participation opportunities for them at a local level,” said Cr Frantz.

“Young people will be encouraged and consulted in the planning of all activities developed as part of this program,” concluded Cr Frantz.

Council’s Youth Services also run FreeZA and National Youth Weeks events and programs to support young people and their families in their transition from primary to secondary school and secondary school to further education, training and employment.

Over the past decade, Golden Plains Shire Council has engaged over 4,000 young people in activities and services.
